Art Car Weekend
The weekend will kick off with a "wild and zany" Art Car Wedding, on Friday, August 18th, 2006 at 6:30pm at the Lakeside Inn. Local artist Regina Smith (Mom's Clutter Heap) met Tom Bazinette from West Palm Beach (Sun N Sand Work Van) at last year's event. It was love at first sight and nothing would do but to have their wedding one year later in a not-so-traditional fashion at the 3rd Art Car Weekend. They have created a "wedding car," and after the ceremony the couple will cruise around historic downtown Mt. Dora celebrating their union.
The Mount Dora Center for the Arts is hosting Family Fun Fest Day on Saturday, August 19th from 10:00am to 2:00pm in conjunction with the Merchants Association's Art Car Weekend. Artists and families will be invited to enter a sidewalk chalk art contest on the pavers of Baker Street. There will be live music performed in Donnelly Park. Picnic lunches will be available at participating local restaurants so families can lunch and enjoy the fun in the park. Artists will be displaying their work inside the Donnelly Park Building.
The rolling pieces of art will make a rally around Lake Dora through Tavares, at 10:00am on Saturday morning, and then will come to life as the official parade starts at 11:00am, on Saturday. The parade will travel down Donnelly Street and around side streets in historic downtown Mount Dora until the cars find their "pit area." The rolling works of art will be displayed throughout downtown until 4:00pm on Saturday.
Vote for your favorite car in the People's Choice Awards by donating $1.00 or more at collection boxes located by each car. Votes can be cast until 1:00pm on Sunday. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Hospice of Lake and Sumter Counties.
On Sunday, August 20th, the cars will rally to Waterman Village, returning to Downtown Mount Dora by noon where they will gather at Country Cottage Crafts on Donnelly Street.
Award announcements and photo session will be held at 3:00pm.
