Passage to India:
Restaurant Review:
By Joy Atkinson (Summer Intern)
Passage to India is a good Indian restaurant located on International Drive in Orlando,
FL right off of Grand National Drive. This location is close
to all the major attractions. They serve lunch and dinner;
so do not try to go for breakfast. Also, if you pass the Burger
King near Belz Mall, you have gone too far.
When I arrived at Passage to India, they seated me right
away. They accepted my reservation, although there was none
necessary. This was very convenient because I was seated without
having to wait. The atmosphere was very pleasant. They had
pictures of famous people that have visited their restaurant
while they have been in business. It was enjoyable looking
at those pictures after and during dinner. There were cloth
table coverings and napkins. The menu was easy to ready and
even though it was hard for me to pronounce nearly every item,
the descriptions were easily understood. Also, the server
was very polite in explaining what things were on the menu,
even knew how to pronounce the items.
I started off with an appetizer. The Vegetable Samosa was
a great start to the meal. It was two flaky pastries filled
with potatoes and spiced peas. These came with a sauce that
I tired. The flavoring of the sauce made gave the samosa a
different taste. It also gave me a good idea of the types
of food that were about to come. For dinner, I had the Lamb
Palak. The lamb was seasoned with onion and coriander. The
sauce that the lamb came in was delicious. They provide Basmati
rice in addition to the order. I was able to put the Lamb
Palak on the Basmati rice. The seasoning was very strong,
so the rice gave it an essential additive. I also tried the
Chicken Tikka Masia. This dish was very different from the
lamb. This dish was not in a sauce. The chicken was also highly
seasoned with plenty of onions and peppers to add to the taste.
This dish was also served with Basmati rice. Indian bread
and sauce was also served with a meal. The bread was good
by itself or with the sauce. It was also good combined with
the meal.
Indian food offered great diversity to my normal eating styles.
The food was cooked in ways that I could never do myself.
The taste was like no American food that I had ever eaten
before. There is chicken, tandoor, vegetable, rice, lamb,
and seafood specialties available. Dessert was available,
like Mango Ice Cream. However, by the time I was done with
my dinner, I had to take a to go box and skip dessert.
Word to the wise, the more people you go with the more things
that you can try. This way everyone in your party is able
to sample a variety of Indian food. However, eating your favorite
is suggested as well. I really enjoyed the lamb. Also, ask
questions. You server is very familiar with the food and able
to find a meal that would appease your taste buds. Finally,
go hungry. The portions are very generous and you will probably
want to try dessert.
